Union Bank Scholarship

For 25 years, Union Bank has proudly supported local students in their pursuit of higher education. Our scholarship program recognizes and celebrates graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated dedication to their education and their community. Union Bank is committed to helping students within its service area achieve their dreams by providing financial assistance for those pursuing college or trade school education in fields that make, build and grow our communities.
  • Make – Careers focused on creating and producing, such as manufacturing, engineering, culinary arts, and skilled trades.
  • Build – Careers that develop and strengthen communities, including construction, architecture, technology, and infrastructure.
  • Grow – Careers that support sustainable growth, such as agriculture, environmental sciences, finance, education, and healthcare.
Union Bank will award three $1,000 scholarships to students who best demonstrate academic achievement, strong character, leadership, citizenship and involvement in school and community activities.
To apply, students must meet the following criteria:
  • Be a graduating high school senior.
  • Attend a high school within a county where Union Bank maintains an office.
  • Plan to attend a private or public college, university, or trade school. (Students who have not yet been accepted may still apply.)
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Submit a copy of their high school transcript (grades 9-12).
  • Demonstrate academic achievement, character, leadership, citizenship and involvement in school and/or community activities.
  • Submit a 500-word essay detailing:
    • How they selected their intended field of study or career path.
    • Relevant experiences (e.g., volunteer work, summer jobs, extracurricular activities, internships, etc.) and what they have gained from them.
    • How their education will contribute to their short-term or long-term career goals.
  • Submit one letter of recommendation (not from a family member).
  • Children or immediate family members of Union Bank directors, officers, and employees are not eligible.
Scholarship funds will not be released until Union Bank receives proof of enrollment via a tuition statement for the upcoming academic year. The scholarship recipient is responsible for providing Union Bank a copy of their tuition statement in a timely
manner, no later than October 1, 2025. Union Bank will mail the scholarship check directly to the college or trade school.

The application deadline is April 11, 2025.
Applications must be submitted to Union Bank by April 11, 2024. Any applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Please send all applications via email to Union Bank | unionbank@ubmich.com. Recipients of the scholarship will be announced on or before June 2, 2025.
